Chief Operator Duties:
Schedule shifts and insure compliance by the Master Control Engineer staff for a 24-7 operation.
Maintained records and completed reports as required by the Federal Communication Commission. Insured compliance with required Emergency Alert System tests.
Interviewed and selected new hires, insuring they met the posted requirements for education, ability, and experience.
Examined procedures and wrote instructions for proper operation of equipment and execution of job responsibilities by the Master Control Engineer staff.
Master Control Engineer Duties:
Operate control console for mixing of microphones and other audio sources for live and pre-recorded programs.
Made connections to remote studios via landline or satellite for live or recorded programming.
Set up, operated, and tore down temporary studios for nationwide festival broadcasts, or special events, such as election night coverage.
Reported equipment problems to Maintenance Engineers, giving complete and accurate descriptions of the situation and suggesting possible causes and solutions.
Assisted Maintenance Engineers with equipment installation, removal, and repair, including 20-Kilowatt radio transmitters and their associated equipment.
Loaded program events into the ENCO Systems computer automation playback. Created the schedule of events for each day.
It must be emphasized that each of these duties required on-time execution. Emergency situations required rapid analysis and quick determination of the proper course of action. This was especially true during rapidly evolving news events.
