  • Perform patient pre-operative interview in Epic to assess patient readiness for surgery and procedures for Interventional Radiology patients. This includes medical history review including patient's pre-existing conditions, allergies and medications.
  • Order and interpret physician ordered tests or tests ordered by Pre-Admitting under Anesthesia guidelines. Examples include EKG's, bloodwork and Chest X-rays, urinalysis.
  • Collaboratively work with physicians including primary care physicians, surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure any abnormal testing is addressed and to obtain approval before proceeding with surgery.
  • Obtain medical clearances and any specialty clearances such as cardiac, pulmonary, hematology, neurology clearances if necessary.
  • Identify any potential risks for surgery or anesthesia such as difficult airways, bleeding disorders, identify history of any anesthesia complications.
  • Verify the accuracy of the medical record and surgical consents.
  • Educate patients on medication instructions, give pre-operative NPO instructions and document education.
  • Work as chart nurse role ensuring the patients having surgeries following day have all proper medical clearances, all abnormal testing was addressed and chart complete for surgery.
  • Currently working with Interventional Radiology/PAT team on moving Interventional Radiology team toward process of moving to an electronic record to align with best practices and patient safety.
