My passion for medicine began at a young age while watching my father and other family members serve their communities through volunteering. Although I volunteered at my local fire department from the age of 13, I did not begin medical training until my senior year of high school in 2016 to 2017. I completed an EMT-B course through WILCO near Joliet, IL.
Shortly after high school I was shipped out to USMC boot camp at San Diego, CA in July of 2017. I earned the title Marine and graduated boot camp in October of 2017. After infantry school and engineer school, I returned home to Braidwood, IL. I tested and obtained an EMT-B license in May 2018. In June 2018 I was notified of an imminent deployment in which I was to depart for in the following year.
From January 2019 to December 2019 I was deployed to US SOUTHCOM (United States Southern Command) aboard SPMAGTF-SC19 (Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, Southern Command 2019) in order to provide contingency planning, operations, humanitarian aid, and security cooperation to the Guatemalan people, as well as their military.
Afterward I reported back to 6th ESB Engineer CO Charlie. I have received several decorations and awards, as well as a meritorious promotion to Sergeant. My time in the Marine Corps has helped me to become a strong and proficient leader. Although I am currently serving as a combat engineer, I have been able to progress in my passion for medicine through TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) certification. I have had the privilege of instructing other Marines on those principles and aspects of TCCC.
The official start of my career in medicine began with Advanced Medical Transport in Streator, IL. While here I mastered the principles and skills within the BLS scope of practice. After a year on the job I enrolled in the Paramedic course through Creighton University which was hosted at AMT in Peoria, IL. The course began in July 2021 and I was licensed as a Paramedic in the State of Illinois in October 2022. Unfortunately, the Streator market for AMT closed shortly after completing the class. I used this as an opportunity to gain experience in other EMS systems and locations in an effort to diversify my experience.
Currently I am practicing paramedicine with Carle Arrow Ambulance primarily in Champaign, IL where I continue to forge both professional and personal bonds with my fellow providers. I am determined to become a Critical Care Paramedic as my passion in medicine dictates.
