Sammantha Griffin

I supervise and mentor children ages from preschool age through eighth graders. I lead enrichment activities such as, being in the homework room, various crafts, and group games. I promote positive behavior and guidance by engaging in communication with not only the children, but with other staff members, as well as parents. This allows me to collaborate effectively with my coworkers to ensure a safe environment. I also maintain a balanced and organized schedule between being a full time student and working.

I supervised and led groups of diverse campers in daily activities, focusing on team building, creativity, and strategy. I learned to manage conflict, both on the fly and long term. This ability to deal with conflict head on ensured a safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved. I also collaborated with coworkers and other Gurnee Park District staff to coordinate daily activities to ensure the day runs smoothly. Throughout my time I developed leadership roles, learned many different affective ways of communication, and I demonstrated problem solving skills.

I supervised and cared for multiple children at a time. As well as preparing meals, building daily schedules, planning fun, age-appropriate activities that also maintained safety. Along with caring and planning with the children, I maintained good and clear communication with parents and gained immense trust.

Provided compassionate care and supervision for children of all ages while their mother's access the shelter's services, as well as support groups. I created a safe and nurturing environment for children of all backgrounds. As well as providing care for the children, I supported shelter staff with maintaining cleanliness and providing a consistent routine. Through this experience I developed a strong sense of empathy, as well as compassion.
