When I was made a lead at Ashley Furniture, we had a meeting about record breaking numbers, and I was glad to be able to be leading a team that was a part of that process and I was glad to be able to make the connections that I did throughout my time working there. I was also always a translator because of my Spanish speaking skills. Whenever we had someone that didn’t speak English, I was the go to person to step in and explain work processes and expectations in the area. I’m not someone to complain, argue or talk back, if something needs to be done, considerate it done. My time scaffolding for Brock at Exxon Mobil I was taught many things by many people and although I was new to this industry, I learned quick on rights, wrongs and safety in these environments, working in harsher environments including harsh chemicals, hot environments, working in the rain and lifting/ hauling heavy material many feet above the ground.
Scaffolding at Exxon Mobil refinery with tube and clamp, toe board, plywood, power tools, the proper PPE and being 100% tied off being many feet above ground. This was my first job starting off in the union and although it was a short run because of less work, it was a great experience learning and working with really helpful people despite the harsher working conditions. I was always on time, getting along with everyone and gave it everything I got. I asked questions when I was unsure about something and was taught a lot of things throughout this experience.
Whenever supervisor was absent, I’d step up and come in early and/or stay late to send reports, make sure everything was swept and clean, and helped out in areas that needed my help. Whenever we had a team member absent, I’d come in 3 hours early and stay late if needed just to make sure we got the job finished, even if I had to pull 10+ hours. I rarely called off and was always on time and got along with everyone. I’m learned quickly on how to lead my team to produce quality product and when there was issues in the work environment, I was able to handle whatever I could without risk of escalation.
I am a fast learner although I am also a visual learner, I pick up on things quicker when showed how to do it rather than verbally I have experience with leadership skills and when it’s time for me to step in and push harder to get my team to succeed, I will be determined to do that I don’t like to be late and am someone who believes in “being on time is late, being early is on time” I rarely miss work unless it’s things of importance or sickness because I like working as many hours as I can get, including weekends I am also someone who is willing to work even if an extra hand is needed, even if it’s supposed to be my day off, I will be there I am fast paced I like to get things done quick, but in a timely matter to get the job done the right way, not just rushing through it
