CNA (Live In Private Caregiver)

(private client deceased)
12.2020 - 04.2021
  • The client who was diagnosed with ALS getting palliative care at the beginning of my job contract needed 24hr care so I basically was living in her home in which I was given my own room next to where the client slept (living room area). What my day to day consisted of was waking her up at 8/9am to get her ready for the day, before I take her out of bed I suction her and give her her first morning meds in bed which her Charge nurse and family directed me to give her with special/thorough directions and documented. Then after I helped her in bed R.O.M exercises for 30min-1hr long. Then after I'd use a hoyer lift to take her to the bathroom for toileting and to wash her up. After the bathroom I'd put her in her electric wheelchair which I controlled for her as she couldn’t move any of her limbs without help, when we got to the kitchen I’d do the mouth care with her electric toothbrush and face routine. After the kitchen I’d move the chair to the main living room where she loved to watch tv all day. I'd set up her mini computer which she used to communicate because she couldn’t speak anymore (muscle dystrophy). She had a feeding tube in which she used to eat and take most of her oral meds in. I had to fix up her feeding of course with the Charge nurses and the families direction. We used the McKesson gravity feeding bags 1200cc to feed her and filled them with the feeding formula. I helped with breathing exercises, CPAP machine, nebulizer (to help thin phlegm), medication documentation, grocery shopping lists, keeping track of household supplies, going to hospital visits with client, managing her calendars, ensuring her electronics are working, cleaning the house, doing her and her moms laundry, bathing and toileting her and her mom, meal prep for her mom, helping out mom in bed, transferring client in and out of bed/chair using hoyer lift.
