Topic of Research: An assessment of water quality and the occurrence and abundance of algae in two drinking water reservoirs in South-East England.

The research was undertaken in partnership with the water company South East Water (SEW)

• Determine spatial and temporal variations in water quality (nutrients, microbiological, parameters) by monitoring surface water inputs into each reservoir (catchments) and within each reservoir.
• Analyze the occurrence and abundance of algal species in the two drinking water reservoirs.
• Determine if faecal pollution in each reservoir catchment is potentially contributing significantly to nutrient concentrations in the reservoir waters.
• Explore relationships between water quality parameters and algal species abundance.

• Tracing soil erosion with the assistance of particle-bound pesticide from arable land sources coming from overland flow in order to evaluate runoff generation.
• Monitoring specific pesticides originating from crop culture to the soil water and solid phase onto the dissolved phase and suspended matter at related tributaries
