Hi, my name is Melissa but I go by Missy. I am a Veterinary Assistant, mom, animal care taker, and a coin/jewelry dealer. I have a wide range of skills in different areas. I have had a true passion for working with and taking care of animals my entire life. It brings me such happiness to help an animal in need and being surrounded by animals. I currently live on a 85 acre farm with 5 donkeys, 13 goats, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats. I understand the fundamentals of taking care of animals. I have years of experience giving oral medications, and vaccinations to farm animals, as well as taking care of my dogs and cats. I have had experience helping injured animals and first hand experience with deceased animals from natural causes, injuries and euthanasia. I recently decided to go back to college and finally purse my passion of working with animals. I am very eager to finish the Veterinary Technician Program and learn as much as I can to further my education as a Vet Tech and become as advanced as I can.
I completed my first externship at Marengo Animal Hospital in Marengo IL. I had a wonderful experience there and I was given lots of range to learn and try new things. I assisted in surgeries, dental work, and euthanasia. I answered phone calls, scheduled appointments, requested records from other clinics, and filled medications. I prepared some vaccinations and gave them to the pet. I did nail trims, processed fecal samples, venipunctures, inserted a catheter, performed endotracheal intubation at least 5 times and assisted customers in the exam rooms.
As well as my love for animals I have been working at our family business at Rockford Jewelry and Coins and Belvidere Collectible Coins for years with my husband and sister in law. I try to excell in enhancing customer satisfaction through personalized service and appraisals by demonstrating strong listening and communication skills. My proficiency in assessing the value of fine jewelry and coins showcases my ability to pay meticulous attention to detail to give correct selling and buy price on the items based on current stock market prices.
I also have a small business in the making, Ashes to Angels. I can put your pets ashes in fine jewelry, or make a pet memorial out of resin. I hope to start taking orders once I can get some more supplies and practice in. I have such a love of animals, and love of jewelry, I decided I would incorporate the two together. This way you can have something custom of your beloved pet where there ashes can be worn or on display in something unique. I also enjoy making sympathy cards where I can write meaningful messages/poems about pets.
I am ready to take the next step in my life and start working at a veterinary clinic while I work to complete the vet technician program. I hope my passion for helping animals in need will be a benefit in a veterinary clinic and I can be given an opportunity to make a difference. I am currently seeking part-time work and or some longer shifts; I could work during the day while my children are in school. I am open to discuss schedule ideas.
