Volunteered for one year in the “Helping Others” program, which involved monthly visits to schools for children with special needs, including cognitive, communication, and, at times, physical disabilities. Before beginning, I underwent a screening interview to assess suitability for working with such a sensitive population.
The role required the ability to communicate messages clearly and simply, show patience, and express empathy—qualities I was able to demonstrate throughout the program. Prior to each visit, we held planning meetings to prepare activities and assign roles among the volunteers. I facilitated a variety of activities aimed at strengthening the children’s sense of confidence and communication skills.
One of the most meaningful outcomes was witnessing the growing engagement of the children over time, as personal attention, consistency, and genuine warmth helped build trust and connection.
