During my first month working at MacNeal Hospital, the emergency department experienced an unusually high patient volume. Although I was still in orientation, my preceptor was excellent, but with the department so busy, they could not be everywhere at once. I stepped up to work independently alongside the nurses to help ensure patients were assessed, treated, and discharged efficiently. I remained focused, adaptable, and committed to providing high-quality patient care despite the demanding circumstances.
My dedication and strong work ethic did not go unnoticed. The nurses recognized my willingness to take initiative, collaborate with the team, and support patient care during a particularly challenging time. As a result, they wrote me a glowing letter of recommendation highlighting my diligence, professionalism, and commitment to excellence, and nominated me for a Petal Award.
