- Patient assessment/monitoring: Post surgical incisions- MSI's, graft sites, clamshells, abdominal incisions, port sites. Cardiac assessment- q4 VS, peripheral pulses, heart/lung sounds, 24 hr telemetry/rhythm interpretation, mobility- q2 turns, 0400 labs (transplant patients), wound care/pressure injury prevention, sterile dressing changes. Common Surgeries: CABGx1-3, Open heart/lung transplants/surgery, MVr/AVR, Esophagectomies, tracheostomies, MAZE/Cardioversion.

- Intra/interprofessional teamwork: Worked first handedly with members not only specific to the post surgical team, but many others. A majority including various Physicians/PA's/& NP's. These services consisted of cardiology, transplant, urology, nephrology, endocrinology, cardiac/thoracic/& vascular surgery, gastric/colorectal surgery, Social work, and PT/OT. Correlated appointments with patient transport for imaging like X-ray, CT, MRI, R/LHC, pre/post op surgery prep. Worked with family to provide effective communication through listening whilst maintaining a professional demeanor amongst conflict. Advocated for patients by providing emotional support, respect, and education for the future regarding their condition at discharge.
- Further responsibilities: Emergency response- responding to complications (tamponade, arrhythmias, chyle leak/infection, etc), and providing appropriate interventions. Documentation- accurate clinical assessment, medication administration, and knowledge of detailed patient records. Collaboration with RN's to coordinate effective patient centered care. Communication with overnight physicians to provide solutions for a deteriorating patient.
