Summary
Over the years I have developed a large set of technical skills including SQL Server administration, performance troubleshooting and development. This also includes developing applications using VB.NET. ETL development is also a skill I have used quite often, creating many SSIS packages over the years. I have developed and architected two separate monitoring solutions that allow for effective monitoring with limited or no cost to the company. I have also worked in Tableau, Alteryx and Informatica. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with the business to help them determine reporting needs and build a reporting solution that allowed the business to be more effective. I have managed a DBA team for almost 10 years, which is also a position what was 65 to 70% hands on DBA work.

- Administers Stericycle’s distributed SQL Server database environment, which includes over 165 SQL Servers distributed throughout North America and Europe
- Managed the corporate Informatica, Tableau and Alteryx environments
- Managed up to 7 team members, both DBA and Analytics team members
- Created a set of 49 metrics that were tracked and reviewed monthly to measure overall team and system performance
- Led the effort to create a SQL Server monitoring tool using SQL Server TSQL, SSRS and vb.net
- This tool allowed for full performance, security and configuration monitoring of 165 SQL Servers
- Included in the monitoring: SQL Server wait statistics, database file growth, memory utilization monitoring, AlwaysOn latency monitoring and many other features
- There are a total of 149 features that are included in the system
- This also allowed us to monitor servers that we were not able to get funding for a third-party monitoring tool
- I wrote over 90% of the T-SQL code and 100% of the VB.NET front end application and all SSRS reports
- Led the DBA team to a 99.3% SLA over a 4-year period
- Led the DBA team to a 99.999% server and database up time
- Led the DBA team to a 98% engagement rating in 2016 and 2019 as well as 100% in 2022
- This number is an indicator of the overall happiness of the DBA team and how much they enjoy their jobs
- Led the effort to decrease after hours work for the DBA team, while also increasing monitoring, improving job failure rate and overall responsiveness to issues of the DBA team at no cost to the company
- Wrote and delivered training to many teams covering topics such as: Powershell, SSAS, SSRS, Extended Events, Execution Plans, Enterprise Security and other topics
