Lead Data Entry Pharmacy Technician

Care One Pharmacy
02.2019 - 06.2020

Care One Pharmacy is a delivery pharmacy whose clients are long term care, hospice, and skilled nursing facilities. They provide medications and medical supplies to the residents of these facilities. As a Lead Data Entry Technician, I processed medication orders that arrived electronically, verbally, or by fax. I typed the details of these orders accurately into the patient's profile. I took note of any irregularities present in the orders, and followed up with the facility, prescriber, or pharmacist to resolve them. I solved problems with orders that I and others had entered at the request of the pharmacists. I frequently partnered with members of the billing department to help solve pharmacy coverage issues.

Many of our facilities received their medication in "pill rolls" - individually packaged time-and-date-stamped doses that make it easy for caregivers to administer drug therapies. As a Lead Data Entry Technician, I set up the pill roll files used by the Fill Technicians to create the rolls using the TCGRx system. This is a long and complicated process with many opportunities for error, and required high accuracy and attention to detail, as well as knowledge of potential mistakes that must be avoided. I also performed troubleshooting of problems with rolls that I and others had programmed.

I was frequently required to convert units of measure. This allowed the entering of prescriptions for intravenous antibiotics, and for proper dosing with stock medications of different concentrations.

I had additional responsibilities due to my role as a Lead Data Entry Technician. I assisted in training new technicians, particularly the pill roll process. I helped prioritize the workload. Care One is a 24/7 operation and has a complicated delivery schedule. I watched for high-priority orders and either processed them right away or delegated them to others. I interviewed candidates for open positions and followed up with management to discuss their applications, interviews, and skills.

Bachelor of Science - Biology

Skills

Prepared a supplemental standard operating procedure for the NATTS PM 10 high-volume metals sampling parameter when we began sending the samples directly to ERG for analysis instead of CCDES

Frequently serves the role of specialized staff expert by conducting field training:
As operator of the Northbrook site, new operators are often assigned to spend time at the Northbrook site and, as site operator, I would perform one-on-one training
Created and then performed a training session with the North field operators This training was in the use of a secondary flow standard to confirm an out-of-range T640 or T640x flow measurement before performing an adjustment Training included instruction on how to determine whether to perform the operation, how to perform it, and how to report the results to the Data Unit

Served as liaison and provided technical assistance to Cook County Department of Environmental Science (CCDES) Met with staff to train them on the setup, operation, and verification of the Teledyne T640x FEM Afterward, we went to the George Washington High School site and actually set one up in the field

At the instruction of Air Lab personnel, performs non-routine operations such as replacement of a T700U's pump This requires special tools, patience, and dexterity

Frequently uses Microsoft Office suite programs Uses Word to create and edit documents, and to provide feedback and notes on existing ones, such as Quality Assurance documents under development Uses Excel to work with data in many forms Completes and submits spreadsheet macros with verification data and submits to the Data Unit Assists in the creation of macros and other sheets used to calculate and record data in the field Occasionally performs extensive inventory review using Excel spreadsheets

Notices and avidly investigates unusual problems, develops solutions that allow the work to continue uninterrupted, and communicates these to the rest of the team For example: the Thermo Partisol 2000i FRM has a peculiar problem that occurs when the sampler time is adjusted Often (but not always) the pump will turn on and the sampler time and date will freeze in place Since the date of the next sample run never arrives, the sample is not run and must be made up if possible The sampler must be powered off and on again, which resolves the issue Detecting the problem presents its own set of issues In warm weather the operator may hear the pump turn on and know there is a problem, but in cold weather the sampler is probably running its pump anyway to keep its internal temperature up Therefore, the only way to reliably avoid missing runs due to this issue is to power-cycle the sampler whenever the time is adjusted All of this was communicated by the applicant to the other operators, Air Lab personnel, and Quality Assurance personnel This behavior by the samplers had gone totally unnoticed in spite of it having been the likely cause of missed runs
