Barb did not have any family or children. Her first husband passed and married the person who was my second client. After Don passed, she kept me on to assist her. Don's family made her end of life arrangements for her. Assisted with bill payments. Made charts for her to remember what bills were due when and Dr. appointments. Made charts for her salon visits and dog grooming appointments. Assisted with organizing personal items such as closets, dressers, and cabinets. Entertained her by watching her favorite shows and plenty of news. Discussed current events and listened to her attentively speak about her life. Drove her dog to vet appointments and grooming appointments. Drove her to salon for hair and nail appointments.I drove her to the doctor appointments and helped her organize medications and supplements in monthly trays. Rubbed her calves and feet when they pained her. I took her on short walks on her driveway and around her property using a cane and a walker.
Don had multiple strokes and i worked closely with his physical therapist to help him re-learn to walk. Provided physical therapy seven days a week, as he was adamant about learning to walk again. Assisted with a gait belt, walker, and shower chair. Helped with bill paying, prepared meals, made phone calls on his behalf in his presence. I played cards, checkers, and read him war, political, and history books. Breathing treatments, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and temperature were checked twice per shift. After he passed, I immediately began taking care of his wife.
Denise had brain damage due to an accident. Her brain operated as if she had dementia although not diagnosed with dementia. I helped her with cognative skills by talking calmly and slowly with her. Asking her simple yes/no questions, rephrasing questions. Assisted with her prostethic leg, aiding with shower chair, walker, and commode duties. Took her for walks in her wheelchair, watched her favorite shows with her, listened to 60's music with her. I painted her finger and toenails, made sure she had her favorite red lipstick on, and always made sure she had earrings in. In-home hospice was eventually needed. Rotated her to avoid bedsores, cleaned wounds, and administered breathing treatments.
