Ariel Furer

• As head medical officer, oversee military force of over 20,000 personnel, ensuring their healthcare needs are met with top-level quality and preparedness for various emergencies, both at home and abroad. Additionally, serve as senior medical advisor to brigadier general heading the division.
• In executive capacity, responsible for leading and managing team of over 100 medical professionals, encompassing medics, paramedics, dentists, combat and military clinic physicians, as well as young medical officers. Focus on providing guidance and mentoring for more than 20 young military physicians, daily in their duties & tasks, but even more so in their early career development.

• Completed two out of three years of training in clinical cardiology.
• Conducting five research projects, focusing on application of AI in cardiomyopathies in pregnancy (with Mayo Clinic) and heart failure (HF).
• Collaborated with Innovation arm of Sheba (ARC) to establish innovative remote heart-failure clinic and patented novel device for HF, including designing prototype and outlining clinical trial plan.

Took part in shaping the foundational framework for the upcoming decade's strategic roadmap within Israel's healthcare ecosystem. Contributed to the identification of five pivotal areas for strategic advancement, while also addressing crucial issues like the challenges arising from population aging and workforce burnout. Impressively, the committee's endeavors earned the endorsement of the Ministry of Health's senior leadership, establishing a forward-looking trajectory for the healthcare landscape through 2032.

• In 2018, I established the branch within the IDF and spearheaded a team dedicated to addressing our organization's challenges. Our mission involved creating a network capable of conceiving and implementing solutions. This entailed securing funding to transform innovative ideas into impactful game changers in military medicine. We facilitated collaborations with cutting-edge startups, technology giants, fellow medical entities, and government entities. Simultaneously, we cultivated an internal community of innovators and problem-solvers, ensuring the continuous advancement of our product line.
• Over a span of 3 years, we successfully spearheaded over 20 open innovation projects and cultivated collaborative partnerships with a range of industry companies and startups and successfully raised ~$5M to support project development including:
• Conceiving, overseeing, and executing novel AR-based systems (TraumaVR ® , Symbionix © , Israel).
• Planning, project management, and implementation of innovative AI solutions for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC, UniqueAI, Israel).
• Pioneered the IDF Medical Corps data and information center for COVID-19. Led a diverse team of intelligence officers, data scientists, clinicians, and IT experts, leveraging data science tools to provide insights for data-driven policymaking.
• Under the leadership of the innovation branch, we initiated the inaugural 'MedDefense' competition, helmed by the Surgeon General. This event attracted more than 20 industry proposals that were aligned with our challenges.
• We developed a tailored MBA program that specifically incorporated our military academy medical students, equipping them with the necessary tools to sustain this momentum into the future.
• Productive collaborations were established with academic institutions, encompassing both local partners such as TAU, HUJI, BGU, and others, as well as esteemed international collaborators like BME at Johns Hopkins.

• Efficiently orchestrated emergency operation, establishing 30-bed medical ward in an underground parking facility within a week. Led a team of 40+ medical professionals, coordinated care, and provided care for over 250 severely ill COVID patients. Designed and operated remote care war-room, ensuring effective implementation and management.

• In charge of policy making in the field of combat casualty care.
• Led design and supervised implementation of dozens of specialized military medicine clinical practice guidelines, utilizing research and insights gleaned from analysis of mass casualty and trauma injuries within the IDF and through close partnership with ally militaries.
• Initiated more than ten collaborative projects with academic institutions and industry partners in dynamic domains of digital health and Bio-convergence.
• Conceived, designed, and executed innovative translational science research focusing on trauma, utilizing large animal models to explore the viability of novel peptides for point-of-injury delivery. Research aimed to extend survivability window until safe evacuation could be achieved.
• Built a network of global collaboration with close partnerships with the British military, NATO and different branches of the US military.

• Gained experience in pre-clinical animal studies assessing cardiac device safety and efficacy, like bioabsorbable scaffolds and transcatheter heart valves. Engaged in clinical study design, protocol assembly, and data management with medical companies, reporting to Prof. Ori Ben-Yehuda. Explored cardiac hemodynamics via advanced simulation models guided by Prof. Dan Burkhoff.

• Graduated two certification board exams. Board Certified as internal medicine specialist. Supervised and mentored 4-year med school students during their 4-month internal medicine rotation.

• Actively served as combat physician, participating in various unit operations to ensure team success. Managed all medical aspects within Special Forces, including local and overseas training. Led 25-member department of skilled professionals. Contributed to R&D efforts for innovative medical equipment. Successfully implemented new medical capabilities in classified operations. Trained with Delta Force medical teams at Fort Bragg, Virginia.
