Although I was only there for a short time, I feel I was a very productive employee with great team leading skills. At Ed Tucker I got my first taste of warehouse work and was fascinated by the employees ability to be insync with one another making things run efficiently and connectively. Safety was a major priority so having the knowledge of what to do in a emergency was crucial.
As a deli clerk there was a lot of duties you were expected to handle in a certain amount of time. Time was a factor while performing your many tasks that included learning different departments. As a deli clerk you were expected to serve customers to the best of your ability even if the question is for another department. To assist that customer in finding someone in the right department that would know the answer to said question. Most of my duties involved slicing meats, cheeses, and salads. Another big part of my job was to work the fryer to make chicken primarily but also other foods.
Working at Petsmart was probably my favorite job. Primarily because it entailed the health and well being of animals. But also, I very much liked welcoming the young employees for which many of them was their first job. I tried taking them under my wing as the saying goes. Although I was a manager there was no task I would not do. When I started working at Petsmart the company was just beginning to construct my department which was the Pets Hotel department. I was able to make recommendations that would produce a safe and effective department. As a manager I would do evaluations to make sure the dog was friendly and able to get along with other dogs. I had to check to make sure the guest was up to date on vaccinations and appear to be healthy and free of any injuries. I ran the day to day operations mostly because my manager was always busy with paperwork.
As my first taste of warehouse shipping and receiving I was in awe of how everything was put together. I learned that safety was the first priority in this field and had won safety employee of the week.
I found many similarities between both warehouse positions and learned again of the importance of safety. Being on the line and making sure things were on their way to where there supposed to be. Many moving parts and the ability of teamwork is absolutely crucial.
