I have acquired the proficiency to operate lock gates and facilitate communication with vessels. Additionally, I have been responsible for the maintenance of the building grounds, ensuring the security of the property, and overseeing the CCTV surveillance system. I possess the knowledge to monitor and document the levels of lakes and rivers. I remain vigilant for potential emergency situations and am prepared to respond appropriately should any arise. I have lubricated the gates on a weekly basis and addressed any hazards as they arose. I have removed snow using both a shovel and a snow blower, as well as a mule. Throughout the winter months, I have inspected the engines and batteries of the various heavy-duty equipment. During my tenure, I have undergone several training sessions conducted by other lock operators. Additionally, I have received work instructions from my supervisors. I have maintained communication with fellow operators via two-way radio and cell phone. My training encompassed the study of a manual pertaining to the lock and the Integrated Marine Traffic System (IMTS). I utilized the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system to manage the operation of the electronically controlled entrance gate during instances of malfunction. This involved diagnosing issues related to the motor and electrical controls. Additionally, my training provided guidance on employing the PLC program for the operation of the lock gates, as well as protocols to follow when river level readings exceed safe thresholds. I acquired skills in equipment maintenance at the lock, operation of the public address system, utilization of two-way radios, marine radio communication, and the management of CCTV cameras and controls. I possess the ability to interpret a range of gauges to determine wind speed and temperature. Throughout my experience, I have acquired the skills necessary to communicate with vessels within the chamber and accurately record the data into the system. In addition to assisting boats, I have also aided in the secure of barges to the wall and have managed the necessary Coast Guard documentation upon entering the lock. Furthermore, I have received deliveries from various organizations.
I was responsible for transporting children with special needs from their residences to the school. Additionally, I contributed to the pre-approval process for the selection of prospective drivers and paraprofessionals. I also obtained my CDL B and school bus endorsements while employed there.
